Brand or knockoff?
Florence has transformed from an "art city" to a "fashion city" in recent times. When unique fashion shows started to arrive in Florence it drew more and more people in who were interested in shopping and fashion, instead of just art. Now, Florence is home to many major fashion house museums and is considered a shopping hub.
Gucci Museum:
The Gucci museum was a great experience. The muuseum took an eccentric approach with "out there" designs and bright colors that really pulled you in. As I walked through the museum I was able to understand the inspiration and creative direction the designers were aiming for in each collection. The museum plays a role in influencing the authenticity and image of the brand showing how the brand finds inspiration and just how much creativity goes into each campaign. Seeing the displays made me want to buy a Gucci product as it gave a look into the "luxury" experience.
Ferragamo museum:
The Ferragamo museum was one of my favorite museums I have been to in Florence! This museum was one of the first time I saw women highlighted in a museum in Florence which was special. The museum emphasized the role Wanda Ferragamo played in making this brand what it is today, and even explored her role in politics and incorporating women in fashion. Throughout the museum there were inspiring and empowering quotes emphasizing the important role women play in society and in fashion!
Pitti Palace:
Although the costume exhibition was closed, the Pitti palace was a great addition to this week's field visits. The palace, which was formerly home of the Medici for 300 years, gave a look into the art and the extravagance of this family and the power they held. Although the palace was originally designed for Luca Pitti, the Medici's lived there after his death. This palace became a symbol of their wealth, power, and influence over society. Walking through each room was breathtaking and since the museum wasn't crowded we had time to really take in and admire each room. This has been my favorite arm museum so far!
